There's no theme to these pages yet -- I'm still playing around
trying to decide what I want to do.
For the moment I'll just dump
a very few of the 7,000+ images that are sitting on my disk
into one of two categories:
I. Experiments
It's a lot of fun to play with different types photography.
Two styles that interest me at the moment are Stereo 3-D and
Panoramic photography. Here are some examples.
- Stereo 3-D
- The basic principle is to take two pictures that are separated
by approximately the distance between your eyes, and use these
two views to recreate the experience of depth.
A few experiments in free-view (no glasses) cross-eyed and wigglevision.
- My first Quicktime VR panorama
- Warning: This is 3.8 MB,
and is pretty boring -- just the patio in back of the house. It also
is an excellent illustration of an inappropriate subject for
technical reasons. The interaction of horizontal subject lines with
the scan lines produces an astoundingly unpleasant moire effect. Because I'm
mostly interested in non-architectural shots, this shouldn't be a big problem.
This was produced with Canon QuickStitch using 22 photos taken on a tripod
with various devices to position the lens nodal point over the axis of rotation.
More on the technique when/if I produce more of these.
- Panoramic mosaic
- Here is the result of stitching 19 photos using AutoStitch.
II. Places
I'd like to put more photos one the web for family and friends,
but haven't decided exactly how I want to do it. Here are a couple
of examples.
- Brugge / Brouge, Belgium
- This is a very
pleasant, touristically attractive, city - old buildings and
nice canals. We were there in November 2004, and altho it was a bit
cool and had a little rain, it was still quite nice.
I wouldn't want to be there in the high tourist season.
Here are a few 2-3 frame panoramas.
- Lee Point, Suttons Bay, Michigan, USA
- Four directions from the beach one morning in August 2004.
Panoramas a few frames wide.
